So what IS Square 1 Art?Square 1 Art is a fundraising designed by a teacher to fit better into the daily schedule of a teacher. How does it work?Every student who participates completes an artwork on paper labelled with their name, grade, school, and class. This art is all boxed up by the teacher (Miss Nance the art teacher in this case) and sent off to Square 1 Art headquarters. There they will scan it in and create a catalog for each student featuring products printed with their work. These are sent back to the school where students will receive them and their free stickers (also with their art on them). Students are encouraged to take the catalogs home and share the excitement with their families and friends. Family and friends can purchase any of the items in the catalog through the order form OR via online. Just before winter break, items will come in and be sent home with students. Part of the money from the purchase of the items will come back to the art program. What will the money be used for?I plan on using the money raised to supplement our art budget so that we can continue to make really great new projects this year and in the future. Some items I would like to spend the money on are: crayons, markers and colored pencils for next year, I would love to buy some nicer paper for the older kids to use, printing boards, and possibly glazes to have next year. What kind of things can I get?Your students' catalogs will have a huge range of items you can choose from at various price points. At the link attached you will see Square 1 Art's online catalog. Some of these items may be online exclusives. shop.square1art.com/Shop/view-all-products What products do you recommend? Some of the items the kids are most excited about are:
Final NotesWhile the products range in prices, I have seen samples and the quality is excellent and meant to hold up over time. The products should arrive well before winter break which means they would make excellent gifts or surprises (please email me if you would like something to be a surprise for the students). I will be sending notes and updates home with children once everything starts rolling forward. Dates to KnowOctober 18th----Miss Nance mails all art forms to Square 1 Art
November 1st---Miss Nance receives order packets and distributes them. This is where students get stickers! You will know the order packet is in their bag if they wear home a sticker. November 15th---Miss Nance will put out final call for order forms and begin preparing to send them in November 17th---Miss Nance ships all order forms and checks to Square 1 Art December 6th----Products arrive pre-organized to Stevenson and Miss Nance will begin sending them home. If you have breakable items you may receive a note to please pick it up yourself so nothing happens to it in the back pack. Dot Day is Friday, so we are hurdling towards finishing our dot projects! While it isn't looking likely that they will be done and put up for Friday, I am hoping they will be done for next week. Fourth grade is quickly gaining knowledge about color theory, so they will be prepared for their watercolor project. And fifth grade are getting the hang of one point perspective, and turning out so awesome practice drawings.
But that's not the most exciting thing this week. This week we are preparing to start a Square 1 Art fundraiser! Several students, and families, will remember doing this last year and I am so excited to get started! This week will mainly consist of prep work on my part, like putting names on papers, hanging posters and getting the kids ready to start. Keep an eye out for updates through notes home, Tiger Talk, and your kids! This year, regardless of who buys art, every kid that participates will get a sheet of stickers with their art on them. I am also hoping to have a gift for every student that turns in an order form. So while the students are working and in between them needing help or having questions, I am getting papers, posters, and flyers prepped for our fundraiser. I will make an in depth post about Square 1 and what it means for the students and the families once we get started. |
Welcome! To the Stevenson Elementary Art Room blog! I will endeavor to update at least once a week to let you know what's happening in our classroom. And maybe by the end of the year some of the students will be writing posts for you to read! Archives
