Your children will be coming home with a sticker on in the next couple of days! If they have a sticker that means they have their personalized catalog. This catalog is filled with wonderful items all with your child's art on it. They make excellent memories and winter holiday gifts. Look through and shop with your child and pick something out. ORDERS DUE NOVEMBER 17TH TO MISS NANCEMake sure to send your completed order form and payment to Miss Nance by the end of the day November 17th! This ensures that I have it when I ship everything on the 20th and that you will receive free shipping AND amazing gifts for holiday time. YOU CAN ALSO SHOP ONLINEIf you choose to shop online, you can. Your child's catalog should have an online access code where you can shop some online exclusives. If you use that code, I will be notified and you will still be eligible for free shipping AND be a part of the fundraiser. LOLLIPOPS AND SURPRISE PURCHASESIf you place an order, whether online or on paper, your child will get a dum dum lollipop. But don't worry! If you aren't able to purchase, all students who received a catalog will get a dum dum when our orders come in! I have also told some kids that Miss Nance may buy items if they put in good effort and worked hard. I will try to keep this a surprise for the students so that they can have a happy surprise when they get a dum dum.
Square 1 Art has been sent!Tuesday the 24th I mailed our big box of art away to square one. They have begun processing and catalogs will be in very soon. Catalogs will go home around November 6th!All students that had art go in the box will receive their personalized catalog and order form around November 6th! Notes will begin going home to remind you to be on the look out this upcoming week. If your child does not get a catalog it is because they missed the deadline to be included in the box. It DOES NOT mean they cannot participate. I have some extra paper and information about how to participate as an individual. However, I will not be sending anything in, it will be on the student and family. Other Art Room News!In other art room news, all classes are moving on to create more art!
And the Winners are....Every 9 weeks we have a clean up time competition where the fastest class in grades 1 through 5 compete against each other for a prize of their choosing. And the winners for the first 9 weeks, and their selected prizes if we have chosen, are....
Student art for the fundraiser is due back to me by October 16th (this coming Monday) to be included in this years fundraiser. All students who turn art in will receive a sheet of stickers along with their catalog. If students place an order they will get a lollipop. I have decided that everyone will get a lollipop when our orders come in in December because I know that not everyone will be able to buy something.
If a student does not turn in art, they will still get a lollipop in December but will not be receiving stickers or a catalog. They may go onto Square 1 Art's website and sign up to be an individual participant and submit their art that way but I cannot mail in late work. So far, most of the younger students (k-2) are participating as theirs was finished in class. Third has a few who still need to finish but I am going to try and get the art to them to take home this weekend. The big if right now are the older kids (4th and 5th) as they took theirs home and will need to remember to bring it in on their own. I strongly encourage parents to ask about their child's participation and see how they can help. Several students have been interested in the cost of items relative to other things. For example, the cost of a dog tag necklace is about 3 Starbucks drinks. I have also included as an incentive that Miss Nance may buy some keychains of student art as a memento of the students' hard work this year. Notes will be going home within the next couple of weeks to say thank you for participating and to look out for the catalogs. So what IS Square 1 Art?Square 1 Art is a fundraising designed by a teacher to fit better into the daily schedule of a teacher. How does it work?Every student who participates completes an artwork on paper labelled with their name, grade, school, and class. This art is all boxed up by the teacher (Miss Nance the art teacher in this case) and sent off to Square 1 Art headquarters. There they will scan it in and create a catalog for each student featuring products printed with their work. These are sent back to the school where students will receive them and their free stickers (also with their art on them). Students are encouraged to take the catalogs home and share the excitement with their families and friends. Family and friends can purchase any of the items in the catalog through the order form OR via online. Just before winter break, items will come in and be sent home with students. Part of the money from the purchase of the items will come back to the art program. What will the money be used for?I plan on using the money raised to supplement our art budget so that we can continue to make really great new projects this year and in the future. Some items I would like to spend the money on are: crayons, markers and colored pencils for next year, I would love to buy some nicer paper for the older kids to use, printing boards, and possibly glazes to have next year. What kind of things can I get?Your students' catalogs will have a huge range of items you can choose from at various price points. At the link attached you will see Square 1 Art's online catalog. Some of these items may be online exclusives. shop.square1art.com/Shop/view-all-products What products do you recommend? Some of the items the kids are most excited about are:
Final NotesWhile the products range in prices, I have seen samples and the quality is excellent and meant to hold up over time. The products should arrive well before winter break which means they would make excellent gifts or surprises (please email me if you would like something to be a surprise for the students). I will be sending notes and updates home with children once everything starts rolling forward. Dates to KnowOctober 18th----Miss Nance mails all art forms to Square 1 Art

While it isn't looking likely that they will be done and put up for Friday, I am hoping they will be done for next week. Fourth grade is quickly gaining knowledge about color theory, so they will be prepared for their watercolor project. And fifth grade are getting the hang of one point perspective, and turning out so awesome practice drawings.
But that's not the most exciting thing this week. This week we are preparing to start a Square 1 Art fundraiser! Several students, and families, will remember doing this last year and I am so excited to get started! This week will mainly consist of prep work on my part, like putting names on papers, hanging posters and getting the kids ready to start. Keep an eye out for updates through notes home, Tiger Talk, and your kids! This year, regardless of who buys art, every kid that participates will get a sheet of stickers with their art on them. I am also hoping to have a gift for every student that turns in an order form. So while the students are working and in between them needing help or having questions, I am getting papers, posters, and flyers prepped for our fundraiser. I will make an in depth post about Square 1 and what it means for the students and the families once we get started. This is the first time I have had my own art room, and the room is slowly becoming awesome! This week the classes have become more responsible for getting supplies and cleaning up. We time clean ups and the fastest clean up in each grade will get a special art day before winter break! Everyone is very excited! And we have seen some awesome times so far this week, and they will only get better. I am also slowly starting to get more supplies ordered; as well as, getting an Artsonia page up and running. Artsonia is a free website for student art. Student art is posted (as photos), the students can write in titles and captions, and then parents (or any other family member) can purchase special things with their students art on it. The best part? Some of the money from the purchase of any items through our schools page, will come back to our art room! This will help supplement our budget so that we can all kinds of fun, exciting, new projects in the room. Expect an email from the site soon with more information. I will also post a link in both the wishlist section and the contact section of this blog. I have also finally started getting your students' name tags hung in the hallway. The goal is to have the whole school have art up at once for at least a little while! Next up will be dot day art! In addition to the amazing art in the hall, students have continued to make pretty spectacular art in the room as well. Fifth grade has started one point perspective, and are taking to it like fish to water! Fourth grade has started working with watercolors with an experimentation day. Minus some kerfuffle and mess the first day, they are all doing really well with all the different supplies. Third grade have been brainstorming and sketching personal symbols that they will create with pointillism and second has started collages about what they did this summer. First grade is also working on dot day, by creating dots with different parts. So far we have a dot with different lines and a dot with different shapes. Kindergarten is still finishing name tags but will get on the dot day bandwagon next week.
As always, the art room would love donations whenever! Check out the wishlist section to see a short list of things we use frequently, any kind of help is very much appreciated! The first week of school was exciting! As a new teacher, I had a blast meeting all your kids for the first time. This week I kept it simple while the students got used to being back in school and got used to a new art teacher. All the kids made and decorated name tags, some of which will go to our McDonald's for September and the rest will hang in our hallways.
We also learned our school and class rules, and what they mean. In addition to the school rules (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible) we have a few in the art room that are similar. Aim Aim for your best and aim to do right Respect Respect yourself, respect your friends, respect the art room Trust Trust in yourself and trust in your ability to learn |
Welcome! To the Stevenson Elementary Art Room blog! I will endeavor to update at least once a week to let you know what's happening in our classroom. And maybe by the end of the year some of the students will be writing posts for you to read! Archives
